Day 1 Wednesday 18 September 2019 Departure
This afternoon we depart on our flight to Europe.
Day 2 Thursday 19 September 2019 Paris, France
After clearing customs we are met by the Travelrite Tour Manager and enjoy a sightseeing tour of this magical city, known as the City of Light. We will see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame and other famous sights of Paris, and drive along the Champs-Elysées and the Seine, before we are transferred to our hotel. The afternoon will be free to explore the city, visit the Louvre or go shopping. This evening we transfer to the Eiffel Tower for an amazing dinner at a restaurant on the first floor with views over Paris.
Day 3 Friday 20 September 2019 Mulhouse, France
This morning we are transferred to Paris Gare de Lyon for our journey to Mulhouse in Alsace. On arrival, we visit the renowned Mulhouse automotive museum, containing the Schlumpf collection of classic cars, one of the best in the world. We are then transferred to our hotel.
Day 4 Saturday 21 September 2019 Mulhouse
This morning we visit the magnificent Cité du Train, the largest railway museum in the world. We enjoy a guided tour of the museum before having time to explore this amazing museum and its collections.
Day 5 Sunday 22 September 2019 Montreux, Switzerland
This morning we travel by train to picturesque Montreux on the banks of Lake Geneva. Upon arrival we are transferred to our lakeside hotel and the rest of the afternoon is free for independent sightseeing.
Day 6 Monday 23 September 2019 Montreux
A free day to explore Montreux and the surrounding lake. Perhaps you might like to enjoy a ferry ride, which calls into small villages around the lake or visit Freddy Mercury’s museum.
Day 7 Tuesday 24 September 2019 Golden Pass, Interlaken,
Today we take the Golden Pass Train to Interlaken. One of the most picturesque and popular lines in Switzerland, it travels through spectacular scenery. On arrival we are transferred to our hotel.
Day 8 Wednesday 25 September 2019 Interlaken
Today we travel on the historic Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway with wonderful scenery and engineering. It has been described as one of the most beautiful Swiss train routes. The Furka Mountain Route, built in 1925, leads past the impressive Rhone Glacier. Nostalgic steam locomotives and original carriages travel across cogwheel sections from Realp, in the canton of Uri, through long tunnels and over folding bridges to the railway station of Furka. This station lies at an elevation of 2,160m. We subsequently ride down on the Valaisian side. The Rhone Glacier gave the original railway route the name Glacier Express.
Day 9 Thursday 26 September 2019 Interlaken
Today we will have a magnificent experience travelling up the Jungfrau Mountain. We take the modern cogwheel railway to Kleine Scheidegg, 2000 metres up. From there, the Jungfrau railway climbs to the Eiger Glacier station, well known for its mountain restaurant and polar dog kennels. We then continue through the Eiger tunnel, only stopping to enjoy spectacular vistas on the way to the highest railway station in Europe. The Jungfraujoch, over 3,352 metres high, and called the Top of Europe has Switzerland’s most breathtaking scenery. We will see a spectacular Ice Palace and an ice stream while we are at the top of the mountain.
Day 10 Friday 27 September 2019 Zermatt, Switzerland
Today we travel on two trains on the short Alpine journey to Zermatt. On arrival in the picturesque village of Zermatt near the Italian border we check into our hotel, where we spend the next three nights.
Day 11 Saturday 28 September 2019 Zermatt
Today we take the Gornergrat railway, Europe’s highest open-air cogwheel railway, which takes us to Gornergrat at 3089m. At the top, we have a 360º panoramic view of twenty-nine 4,000m peaks, including the glorious Matterhorn and the Gorner Glacier, the third largest glacier in the Alps. The train starts its steep climb through the idyllic town of Zermatt, then passes across bridges, through galleries and tunnels, always keeping the Matterhorn in view, so close it seems you can almost touch it.
Day 12 Sunday 29 September 2019 Zermatt
A free day to relax and enjoy the town of Zermatt and the views of the Matterhorn. Perhaps travel on the cable car to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, where the views are truly spectacular.
Day 13 Monday 30 September 2019 St Moritz, Switzerland
Today we take the legendary Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz. We ride through the clouds across the Swiss Alps, over the Landwasser Viaduct and 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels. We will enjoy a tasty included lunch as we travel past spectacular scenery. This will be one of the highlights of the trip. On arrival in St Moritz, the famous ski resort of the rich and famous and we check into our hotel, where we spend the next two nights.
Day 14 Tuesday 1 October 2019 St Moritz
A free day to relax and enjoy the town of St Moritz. You might like to travel on the funicular rail and cable car up to the Piz Nair, from there you will have stunning views of the lakes below.
Day 15 Wednesday 2 October 2019 Lugano, Switzerland
Today we take the Bernina Express, one of the most dramatic rail journeys in Switzerland. We travel along the UNESCO World Heritage route, through 55 tunnels, across 196 bridges and reach an altitude of 2,253m at the Ospizio Bernina, the highest station along this spectacular journey across the Swiss Alps to Lugano, where we spend the night.
Day 16 Thursday 3 October 2019 Lucerne, Switzerland
Today we take the beautiful Gotthard Panorama Express between Lugano and Lucerne. It hits the mark for breathtaking scenery. This five-hour journey starts as we travel through charming, quaint villages on the way to Bellinzona before arriving in Ticino. Travelling through the Gotthard railway tunnel, a civil engineering marvel, the St Gotthard range, and through the impressive Reuss valley we arrive at Fluelen. The journey ends with a spectacular and enjoyable two and a half-hour Lake Lucerne steamer trip. We will enjoy a tasty included lunch on the journey. Lucerne our home for two nights is a lovely city of town squares and churches.

This morning, we take the Rigi rail line to the top of stunning Mt Rigi, the highest standard line and the first cogwheel railway line in Europe. This afternoon there will be some time to explore Lucerne and the wonderful Swiss Transport Museum.
Day 18 Saturday 5 October 2019 Departure
Today we travel to Zurich and are transferred to the airport for our flight back to Australia.
Day 19 Sunday 6 October 2019 Arrival in Australia
This morning we arrive in Australia and the tour ends.

Day 2 Monday 16 September 2019 Venice, Italy
This morning we arrive in Italy and after clearing customs we are met by our local representative and are transferred to our hotel on Venice Island. The rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing.
Day 3 Tuesday 17 September 2019 Venice
Today we have a sightseeing tour of glorious Venice. We visit magnificent St Mark’s Square, with St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. We see the spectacular Grand Canal with Palaces’ lining the banks. We will wind our way through the narrow alleyways to the market square of the Rialto. The rest of the afternoon will be free to explore this beautiful city.
Day 4 Wednesday 18 September 2019 Venice
This morning, we board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express at Venice Santa Lucia station. Our steward will show us to our private cabins and will be available at all times throughout our journey. After we have settled in, it will soon be time to enjoy a three-course lunch in one of the beautifully restored restaurant cars. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the comfort of your cabin, gazing at the beautiful passing scenery of the Italian Dolomites and the Swiss Alps, or chatting with fellow passengers in the bar car, before taking a delicious afternoon tea in your cabin. A leisurely sumptuous four-course dinner is served, prepared on board by skilled French chefs. After dinner, you may want to linger in the bar car and, when you are ready, retire to your cabin, which has now been transformed into a cosy bedroom.
Day 5 Thursday 19 September 2019 Paris, France
Continental breakfast is served in our cabins by our stewards, just before the train pulls into Paris Gare de l’Est. After disembarking we are transferred to our city hotel where we are met by the main group and the Travelrite Tour Manager.
