Pride of Africa

The Pride of Africa is comprised of fully ensuite Deluxe and Pullman class sleeping cars, which feature state-of-the-art amenities. The Deluxe Suites (10 sq metres plus) accommodate two passengers in either twin or double beds and have a lounge area and ensuite bathroom with shower. The wood-panelled rebuilt sleeper coaches, remodelled and refurbished to mint condition, offer every modern convenience and comfort. The Pullman Suites (7 sq metres plus) are equipped with a comfortable sofa-seat during the day, with a conversion to a double or twin beds for the evening, and also have an ensuite bathroom with shower. A particular delight of The Pride of Africa is the beautifully appointed restaurant cars, where the chefs serve carefully prepared meals using wherever possible local ingredients. The meals are complemented by South African wines. Yet the social hearts of our train are the lounge and observation cars, great places to relax and settle into the unhurried pace of life on board. Unwind in comfortable surroundings and watch the world go by as you get to know your fellow passengers.

Day 1 Wednesday June 26, 2019 Depart Australia
Today we board our flight to Cape Town.

Day 2 Thursday June 27, 2019 Cape Town, South Africa
This morning we arrive in Cape Town – one of the great cities of the world. We will be met by our local guide who will take us on a sightseeing tour where we will see many fabulous sights, including taking a cable car up Table Mountain (weather permitting) and visiting the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens. We are then transferred to our hotel in this vibrant city for a two-night stay.

Day 3 Friday June 28, 2019 Cape Town, South Africa
Today we take a sightseeing tour to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the most south-westerly point of Africa. These promontories were key beacons for the early explorers and are the source of many myths and legends. At the Cape we will visit the famous lighthouse first erected in 1860. On route we will visit Simons Town, a pretty coastal village which is South Africa’s main naval base and consists of lovely Victorian buildings, quaint streets and walkways with a fascinating history. This afternoon we visit the famed Robben Island prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of 27 years of imprisonment. We will be guided around by a former inmate of the prison.

Day 4 Saturday June 29, 2019 Cape Town, South Africa
This morning we are transferred to the Cape Town Railway Station to board The Pride of Africa. After settling into our modern, stylish cabins, we enjoy dinner in one of the beautifully designed restaurant cars as our rail journey to Tanzania begins.

Day 5 Sunday June 30, 2019 Kimberley, South Africa
This afternoon we arrive in the historic diamond town of Kimberley. We will have a tour of the city, the diamond museum and the Big Hole before we return to the train. In the evening we enjoy a beautifully prepared dinner on board our private train.

Day 6 Monday July 1, 2019 Pretoria, South Africa
Today we travel to Pretoria in the Gauteng Province, which is the administrative capital of South Africa and known as “Jacaranda City” for its thousands of jacaranda trees. We have a tour of the station and workshops before a lunch on the platform and then in the afternoon we enjoy a city tour of Pretoria.

Day 7 Tuesday July 2, 2019 Madikwe Game Reserve
This morning we disembark the train and travel by coach to the Madikwe Reserve for a two-night stay at the Tau Game Lodge. Lunch will be served on arrival at the lodge. This afternoon we will enjoy our first game drive before we return for dinner.

Day 8 Wednesday July 3, 2019 Madikwe Game Reserve
Early this morning we have a game drive to see the wildlife. Early morning is perhaps the best time to see wildlife on the move. A relaxing day before another late afternoon game drive.

Day 9 Thursday July 4, 2019 Gaborone Botswana
After a morning game drive and breakfast, we depart the game lodge and travel to Gaborone Botswana. After completing border formalities we re-join the train.

Day 10 Friday July 5, 2019 On board
A day to enjoy the facilities of the train as we travel along one of Africa’s longest stretches of straight railway line, 114km along the eastern edge of Hwange National Park where occasional sightings of animals can occur.

Day 11 Saturday July 6, 2019 Victoria Falls
We arrive at Victoria Falls in the early afternoon. Victoria Falls are the most spectacular in the world. The Zambezi River, which is more than 2km wide at this point, plunges noisily down a series of basalt gorges and raises an iridescent mist that can be seen more than 20kms away. We will have time to explore the falls. Later we have a Sunset Zambezi River cruise.

Day 12 Sunday July 7, 2019 Victoria Falls
A free morning and afternoon to further explore the falls or take part in optional activities. Hike the local trails, or raft the Zambezi, there are many options, the choice is yours. We depart Victoria Falls later in the afternoon to continue our journey.

Day 13 Monday July 8, 2019 On board
A day on board the train as we travel through Zambia. We cross the 427 metre Kafue Bridge this morning. We pass through Lusaka, the capital of Zambia as lunch is served. Dinner is served as the train travels towards Kapiri Mposhi and the start of the TAZARA railway line.

Day 14 Tuesday July 9, 2019 On board
Another day aboard the train passing through towns, villages and countryside of Zambia. This morning we pass through Serenje and travel through Mpika later in the afternoon.

Day 15 Wednesday July 10, 2019 Chishimba Falls
This morning we visit the spectacular Chishimba Falls. This evening we cross into Tanzania.

Day 16 Thursday July 11, 2019 Rift Valley, Tanzania
This morning we arrive at Makambako, Tanzania where there will be time to walk around. We then descend into the Rift Valley and through the Udzungwa Mountains as the train negotiates the tunnels, switchbacks and viaducts of the escarpment towards the Selous Game Reserve.

Day 17 Friday July 12, 2019 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Today we have a visit in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa at 55,000 square kilometres. Selous is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its undisturbed nature and diversity of wildlife and contains larger numbers of elephants, hippopotami, African wild dog, Cape buffalo and crocodiles than any other African game reserve or national park. We journey into the park in open game park vehicles which allow us the best views of the animals. Later we re-board the train and continue on towards Gwata.

Day 18 Saturday July 13, 2019 Dar es Salaam/ Zanzibar Tanzania
This morning we arrive in the capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam. After we disembark the train we have a short sightseeing tour of the city before transferring to the ferry terminal for the journey to the island of Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar we are transferred to our hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax on the beach.

Day 19 Sunday July 14, 2019 Zanzibar, Tanzania
Today we visit the UNESCO heritage listed Stone Town, historic capital of Zanzibar. We will have a walking tour of the labyrinth of streets of stone buildings of this spectacular city. There will be free time to explore as well. We return to the hotel for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 20 Monday July 15, 2019 Zanzibar Tanzania
A free day to relax and enjoy the island of Zanzibar.

Day 21 Tuesday July 16, 2019 Departure
This morning we are transferred to Dar es Salaam airport for our flight back to Australia.

Visas

Visas are required for Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania for Australian passport holders.

Climate

We will be travelling through Africa in the winter/dry season, an ideal time to travel, as we do not experience the extreme heat of summer or the rains of the wet season.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

TOUR OPERATOR:
Travelrite International Pty Ltd (ABN 64 005 817 078) is the tour organiser. All passengers must complete and sign a Travelrite International booking form.

DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT:
A deposit of $1000 per passenger should be sent with a completed Travelrite International booking. As soon as the booking is confirmed, (usually within 24 hours), a confirmation advice will be posted to the client. A second deposit of $1500 per person is due within three weeks of receiving confirmation. Final payments are due to be paid to Travelrite International 90 days prior to the commencement of the 2019 Pride of Africa Cape Town to Zanzibar journey. A 1.5% administration fee will be added to payments by Visa or Mastercard and AMEX cards.

CANCELLATION CHARGES:
Cancellations within 120 days of departure will result in the loss of all monies paid. Cancellations between 120 and 61 days will result in the loss of 50% of the fare paid. Cancellations 60 days or less before departure will result in the loss of all monies paid.

REFUNDS:
The tour is based on arrangements that do not allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing, accommodation, meals, airfare or other services not utilised after the tour has commenced.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS:
All passengers will require a valid passport. Visa’s are required for Zambia and Tanzania for Australian passport holders. If you hold another passport please check with Travelrite.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:
Adequate travel insurance is highly recommended to cover tour members for the consequences of unforeseen events during the tour and for cancellation fees which could result from events such as illness, accident, death etc.

BAGGAGE:
Passengers qualify for a 30kg free baggage allowance on Singapore airways flights.

MINIMUM TOUR NUMBERS & CONDITIONS:
The tour has been priced on the basis of a minimum number of passengers having booked 60 days prior to departure. Travelrite reserves the right to cancel the tour, giving a full refund of all monies paid or offer arrangements to proceed with the tour at a modified cost. Travelrite reserves the right to change advertised entrances if necessary for the smooth operation of the tour.

TOUR PARTICIPATION:
Children under 5 years of age are ineligible on coach & cruise tours. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Passengers with disabilities are welcome on Travelrite & Cruise Offers tours provided they are accompanied by a companion capable of providing all necessary assistance, and do not require special assistance from Travelrite & Cruise Offers personnel. Travelrite and Cruise Offers reserves the right to refuse to carry anyone if it is felt the individual cannot cope with the requirements of coach & cruise tour travel and who may require services and facilities that Travelrite & Cruise Offers cannot guarantee will be available. You agree to not hold the Travelrite & Cruise Offers responsible for any decision made by any of them or any service provider to refuse to carry you, provide any facilities or accommodation to you or to provide any service to you.

Travelrite acts only as an agent in the making of arrangements for hotels, transportation, restaurants or any other service and does not assume any liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to person or property due to an act of negligence or a default of any hotel, carrier restaurant company or person rendering any services included in the tour, or by act of God. Further no responsibilities are accepted for any damage or delay due to sickness, pilferage, labour disputes, machinery break-down, quarantine, government restraints, weather, terrorism or other causes beyond their control. No responsibility is accepted for any additional expense, omission, delays, re-routing or acts of any government authority. The passage contract between the carriers concerned, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers and the purchasers of this tour and/or the passengers. The right is reserved to withdraw any tour and/or make such changes in the tour as may be found desirable or necessary for the convenience of the parties and the proper carrying out of the tour. This contract shall be construed in accordance of the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia and any legal action must be taken in the State of Victoria.
