George Moore

George Moore has had a long and distinguished career in radio spanning some 30 years. From his early days with Sydney’s top Rock Music station 2SM to his recent successful years with both 2DAY FM and 2UW/MIX 106.5. George had the distinction of taking two Sydney radio stations to number one for their first time ever, 2SM (Gibson & Moore) and 2DAY FM some 13 years later. George teamed up almost by accident with crime writer and fishing expert Paul B. Kidd to do the weekend summer show back in 2001, and the duo have been entertaining Sydney radio audiences ever since.

Paul B. Kidd is a Talk and Lifestyle radio and television broadcaster, best-selling author, photo-journalist, magazine editor and freelance 60 Minutes researching producer who specialises in Australian true crime, big-game fishing, humour and adventure. For many years Paul was a regular commentator on 2UE’s Sports Today program before becoming a permanent broadcaster with George Moore on the Weekend Show in 2001. He is the author of 24 books about Australian true crime, Australian serial killers and fishing adventures.

This morning we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the ‘Eternal City’ and see the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, where group members can throw a coin and make a wish. In the afternoon we will visit the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.

This morning we are transferred to the port of Civitavecchia to board the luxurious Cunard Queen Victoria. In the evening George & Paul will host drinks to celebrate the start of the Empires of the Mediterranean cruise.

At sea

A day to explore the ship and enjoy the on-board facilities. Explore the library, shops, gym and pools. In the afternoon George & Paul will introduce you to all that is involved in being a radio-talk host. This promises to be a very entertaining session.

Monday September 17, 2018

Corfu, Greece

This morning we arrive in Corfu, the most northern island of the Ionian group, lying at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea. On our tour today, we will visit Corfu Town with its unique architecture influenced by Venetian, French and British occupation. The most notable examples are the Old and New Fortresses (Venetian) as well as the Palace of Saint Michael & Saint George (British) which now houses an impressive Museum of Asiatic Art. The Liston is Corfu Town’s most traditional meeting place, where people gather to read newspapers and drink coffee or ouzo at the old-established cafés. Its terrace, with a series of arches fronting the road, was designed by the French in the early 19th century and is based on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. It forms the western side of the Esplanade, which is the largest square in southern Europe. The afternoon is free for shopping or sight-seeing.

Kotor, Montenegro

Today we sail up the picturesque Bay of Kotor, a submerged river canyon. A fantastic landscape is created by the overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen. The town was founded by the Ancient Romans in 168 BC and conquered by the Venetians in the 15th century. The port of Kotor was built by the Republic of Venice and is surrounded by impressive city walls. There are many attractive Venetian buildings in the town. We will have a morning tour to explore this interesting city.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

This morning we call in to the historic city of Dubrovnik. Known as the jewel of the Adriatic, the city is situated on a promontory surrounded by the beautiful waters of the Adriatic Sea. It is renowned for the beauty of its monuments, its magnificent city walls and welcoming atmosphere. It was founded by fugitives from the Roman city of Epidaurum during the seventh century. We have a comprehensive tour of Dubrovnik and see the impressive Fort of St John and the Sponza Palace, which was built in the 14th century as the mint for the city.

Venice, Italy

Today we arrive in the spectacular city of Venice, and make sure that you are up on deck as Queen Victoria navigates herself into the port. We will have a sightseeing tour of this beautiful city and visit St Mark’s Square, see the Grand Canal, St Mark’s Cathedral, the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. We will wind our way through the narrow alleyways to the market square of the Rialto.

Korcula, Croatia

Rumoured to be the birthplace of the global traveller Marco Polo, this enchanting island is off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast. On our sightseeing tour this morning we will walk through the cobble stone paths with quaint terracotta roofed houses that lead to the birthplace of Marco Polo. In the afternoon we will take a boat trip and explore some of the near-by islands.

Valetta, Malta

The capital of Malta, Valletta was founded by the Knights of St John in 1566. Its purpose was to strengthen the Order’s position on the island, following the siege of Malta by the Turks in 1565. The sightseeing tour includes visits to St Johns Co-Cathedral and the magnificent Palace of the Grand Masters. We also visit Mdina, Malta’s ancient capital and a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the centre of the island.

Taormina, Sicily

Today we call in to the island of Sicily. We travel to the famous resort of Taormina, spectacularly located high on a 200-metre-high rocky outcrop, with views to Mt Etna. The town, founded by the Greeks, has an ancient theatre that also overlooks the mountain. Since the 18th century, Taormina has been a popular travel destination. We will walk around the medieval centre and see the Terrace Piazza IX April, with its views overlooking Mt Etna and the sea. We will visit Torre dell’Orologio, a restored 12th-century clock tower and the famous Ancient Greek theatre, founded in the third century BC and rebuilt by the Romans at the end of the first century – it is spectacularly sited with views of Mt Etna in the distance.

Sorrento, Italy

We arrive in Naples this morning and have a tour of the beautiful resort town of Sorrento, with its spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. We then visit the ancient, perfectly preserved ruins of Pompeii, a wealthy settlement of the Roman Empire, destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. We will have a tour of the ruins with a local guide to see the Forum, the House of the Vetti, a well-preserved aristocratic villa and much more. This evening we will enjoy farewell drinks hosted by George & Paul to celebrate the end of this fabulous cruise through the Adriatic Sea.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

International touring can involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing in the places visited and it is important that all tour participants have a level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in this activity without the need of assistance from others.

Tour Operator

Travelrite International Pty Ltd (ABN 64 005 817 078) is the tour organiser. Queen Victoria is operated by Cunard Line Limited and the Queen Victoria fly/cruise arrangements are subject to the terms and conditions and general information detailed in the Cunard brochure for Queen Victoria 2018. All passengers must complete and sign a Travelrite International booking form and complete the Cunard cruise personaliser on www.cunardline.com.au.

Deposit and Payment

A deposit of $950 per passenger should be sent with a completed Travelrite International booking form that lists your requested cabin category. As soon as the booking is confirmed, (usually within 24 hours), a cruise confirmation advice will be posted to the client. The confirmation advice will contain all details. Final payments are due to be paid to Travelrite International 90 days prior to the commencement of the Queen Victoria fly/cruise. A 1.5% administration fee will be added to payments by Visa or Mastercard and 3 % for payment by AMEX or Diners Club cards. Travelrite reserves the right to impose a currency surcharge if the Australian dollar falls from the rate costs determined on 1/7/17.

Refunds

The cruise is based on arrangements which do not allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing, accommodation, meals or other services not utilised after the tour has commenced.

Travel Documents

All passengers will require a valid passport. If not an Australian passport holder check with Travelrite International for visa requirements

Travel Insurance

Adequate travel insurance is highly recommended to cover cruise members for the consequences of unforeseen events during the cruise and for cancellation fees which could result from events such as illness, accident, death etc.

Baggage

Passengers qualify for a 20kg free baggage allowance on flights to join or return from the cruise.

Minimum Tour Numbers

The fly/cruise arrangements have been made on the basis of a minimum number of passengers travelling. In the event that less than the required number of passengers have confirmed their booking 60 days from the date of departure, Travelrite International reserves the right to cancel the tour, giving a full refund of monies paid, or offer arrangements to proceed with the tour at a modified fare.

Responsibilities

Travelrite International Pty Ltd (ATAS No A10538) is the tour organiser. Travelrite International Pty Ltd, its agents, officers, affiliates, and/or suppliers of services pursuant to, or in connection with these fly/cruises, shall act only as agents in making arrangements for hotels, transportation, including transportation by ship, restaurants, or any other service and do not assume any liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to person or property due to an act of negligence or a default of any hotel, carrier restaurant company or person rendering any services included in fly/ cruises, or by act of God. Further, no responsibilities are accepted for any damage or delay due to sickness, pilferage, labour disputes, machinery break-down, quarantine, government restraints, weather, terrorism or other causes beyond their control. No responsibility is accepted for any additional expense, omission, delays, re-routing or acts of any government authority. Baggage is at owners’ risk throughout the fly/cruise. The passage contract between the carriers concerned, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers and the purchasers of this fly/cruise and/or the passengers. The right is reserved to withdraw any fly/cruise and/or make such changes in the fly/cruises as February be found desirable or necessary for the convenience of the parties and the proper carrying out of the fly/cruise. This contract shall be construed in accordance of the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia and any legal action must be undertaken in the State of Victoria.
