Roger Fitzhardinge

Roger Fitzhardinge is a regular visitor to Aachen as well as a writer, commentator and photographer for Equestrian Life. We are delighted to have him to share his intimate knowledge of the Aachen festival. Roger has travelled extensively to horse shows around the world and Aachen is his favourite for its colour, friendly atmosphere and elite competition. His familiarity and knowledge of the rules ensure you will catch the best moments, know who to watch and where to be.

Roger Fitzhardinge is an EA NCAS Coach Level 1, General Coach and active Grand Prix Dressage rider. He is passionate about Dressage and has taken several horses from preliminary to Grand Prix. He currently competes at FEI on Amerigo, who is about to have his first Grand Prix start. As a photojournalist, Roger played a large role in the media staff at the Sydney Olympics and WEG in Spain.

Day 1: Wednesday 10 July 2019 Depart
Board our flight to Amsterdam with Singapore Airlines.

Day 2: Thursday 11 July 2019 Osnabrück
On arrival, we travel by private coach to northern Germany and check in to our hotel in Osnabrüeck, the picture-perfect ‘City of Peace’ known for its wonderful shopping.

Day 3: Friday 12 July 2019 Osnabrück
Day begins with a tour of Hof Kasselmann’s breathtaking property to see all the talented young horses through to Grand Prix competition level. The Kasselmann family stables date back over 1000 years and are located in Hagen, near the mountains of the Teutoburger Forest. Kasselmann’s Farm is a fantastic opportunity to be immersed in one of the greatest stables in the world. You will get to see horses from 4 year olds to Grand Prix horses and Stallions. The day concludes with a welcoming dinner, the perfect opportunity to get to know Roger and your travel companions.

Day 4: Saturday 13 July 2019 Osnabrück
Visit the famous PSI (Performance Sales International) centre followed by an exclusive tour of Lyndal Oatley and Patrik Kittel’s outstanding new property. We also hope to catch training demonstrations from their incredible International Grand Prix team. Lyndal moved to Nottuln in 2012 and represented Australia in Dressage at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Her husband, Patrik, placed fourth in the Team Dressage at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Their stables contain world-class facilities, fantastic grounds and a 60-metre indoor arena.

Day 5: Sunday 14 July 2019 Aachen
Transfer from Osnabruck to Aachen, our base for 8 nights and home to the CHIO Aachen event. On the way, we visit German OIympic Eventer, Ingrid Klimke (subject to availability) and have a tour of the lovely town of Munster.

Day 6: Monday 15 July 2019 Aachen
We either meet Australian Equestrian greats Edwina Tops-Alexander and Boyd Exell, or take a walking tour through Aachen with a local guide. Edwina Tops-Alexander is one of the top names in Showjumping and Boyd Exell is a four-time World Champion in Four-in-Hand Driving and seven-time FEI World Cup Champion. He is based near Valkenswaard in the Netherlands.

Day 7: Tuesday 16 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
Enjoy the first day of competition with the Showjumping. In the evening we will attend the spectacular Opening Ceremony.

Day 8: Wednesday 17 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
Enjoy a wonderful day of competition that includes Jumping and the first of the Driving classes.

Day 9: Thursday 18 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
The Jumping and Driving continues, while the Dressage gets underway with the CDIO5* Grand Prix class.

Day 10: Friday 19 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
It’s an action-packed day at Aachen with the Dressage and Jumping phases for Eventers, as well as the Jumping, Driving and Dressage disciplines.

Day 11: Saturday 20 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
It’s Cross Country day for the Eventers at Aachen! There is also Jumping, Driving and Dressage. The winning Nations Cup Dressage team is crowned this day, which we definitely don’t want to miss!

Day 12: Sunday 21 July 2019 Aachen with expert commentary from Roger Fitzhardinge
The final day of competition includes the CDIO5* Grand Prix Freestyle, the Rolex Grand Prix of Show Jumping, and the final Driving events. In the evening we attend the Closing Ceremony and the day concludes with a farewell dinner.

Day 13: Monday 22 July 2019 Depart
A free morning before we transfer to Frankfurt airport for our flights to Australia.

Day 14: Tuesday 23 July 2019 Arrive Australia

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

International touring can involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing in the places visited and it is
important that all tour participants have a level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in this activity without the
assistance from others.

Tour Costs:
The tour costs are based on airfare, general transport, accommodation costs and foreign exchange rate at 1/8/18. Travelrite reserves the right to alter the costs if any of these factors change, giving any passenger that has booked the right to withdraw with full refund of monies paid or modify arrangements. No alterations to price will be made within 62 days of departure from Australia.

Deposits and Payments:
A deposit of $1000 per passenger is required at the time of booking. A second deposit of $1500 is due 6 months prior to departure in line with deposit requirements of the Aachen accommodation. Full payment required 62 days before departure.

Air taxes:
From Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Perth as listed in the itinerary. Please contact us for air taxes from different cities. Air taxes are as at 1/8/18. If they change due to government and airline charges and currency variations, Travelrite International reserves the right to charge additional amounts.

Cancellation Conditions:
Cancellations within 62 days of departure will result in the loss of all monies paid. Cancellation outside 62 days from departure will result in a cancellation fee of $2500 per person.

Tour Organisation:
Travelrite reserves the right to change advertised entrances if necessary for the smooth operation of the tour. Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is recommended to cover the costs of cancellation fees due to illness, death in family, etc.

Minimum Tour Numbers:
The tour has been based on a minimum number of passengers having booked 62 days prior to departure. Travelrite reserves the right to cancel the tour, giving a full refund of all monies paid or offer arrangements to proceed with the tour at a modified cost. Travelrite reserves the right to change advertised entrances if necessary for the smooth operation of the tour. Refunds: The tour is based on arrangements, which do not allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing, accommodation, meals, airfare or other services not utilised after the tour has commenced.

Baggage:
All passengers qualify for the 30kg baggage allowance.

TOUR PARTICIPATION:
Children under 5 years of age are ineligible on coach & cruise tours. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Passengers with disabilities are welcome on Travelrite & Cruise Offers tours provided they are accompanied by a companion capable of providing all necessary assistance, and do not require special assistance from Travelrite & Cruise Offers personnel. Travelrite and Cruise Offers reserves the right to refuse to carry anyone if it is felt the individual cannot cope with the requirements of coach & cruise tour travel and who may require services and facilities that Travelrite & Cruise Offers cannot guarantee will be available. You agree to not hold the Travelrite & Cruise Offers responsible for any decision made by any of them or any service provider to refuse to carry you, provide any facilities or accommodation to you or to provide any service to you.

Responsibility:

Travelrite acts only as an agent in the making of arrangements for hotels, transportation, restaurants or any other service and does not assume any liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to person or property due to an act of negligence or a default of any hotel, carrier restaurant company or person rendering any services included in the tour, or by act of God. Further no responsibilities are accepted for any damage or delay due to sickness, pilferage, labour disputes, machinery break-down, quarantine, government restraints, weather, terrorism or other causes beyond their control. No responsibility is accepted for any additional expense, omission, delays, re-routing or acts of any government authority. The passage contract between the carriers concerned, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers and the purchasers of this tour and/ or the passengers. The right is reserved to withdraw any tour and/or make such changes in the tour as may be found desirable or necessary for the convenience of the parties and the proper carrying out of the tour. This contract shall be construed in accordance of the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia and any legal action must be undertaken in the State of Victoria, Australia.
